President Obama And Others Reject Koran Burning

Ever since a tiny Florida church announced a Koran burning off, there has been good outrage. American officials and world leaders have announced their dislike and outrage at the proposed action. President Obama weighed in on the proposed Koran burning by the Dove World Outreach Center Church and controversial Pastor Terry Jones, saying that the proposed demonstration won’t be good for anyone. Numerous officials have warned that it will only serve as a recruiting tool for terrorists. Should the church fail to listen to reason, there may be little recourse until after the fact.

President Obama asks for Koran fires to get stopped

The president has called for burning the Koran to not happen. According to the Los Angeles Times, he asked that Pastor Terry Jones and also the Dove World Outreach Center Church think about consequences to others first. The demonstration will only benefit the terrorists we are fighting, and that it will make US Citizens appear even more bigoted to the world. The president isn’t really alone in that opinion. Gen. David Petraeus, commander of United States of America forces in Afghanistan, issued a comparable caution. Petraeus said the “burn a Koran day” will simply be a tool for the Taliban to recruit with. He also pointed out that it will make American people more vulnerable worldwide to attack.

Outrage popular globally

The international response to the demonstration has been one of outrage. According to CNN, the French and British governments have both condemned the book burning. Interpol, the global police force, opposes it also. Interpol has said it will only increase religious violence global. A spokesman for the Taliban said that if the church goes via with it, the Taliban will begin targeting Christians in retaliation. Former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin pleaded for Jones and his church to not go through with it. The Vatican also called for the church to call it off.

They have promised to think about it

Not long after announcing it, Terry Jones, the pastor of the small religious organization, has said the group is thinking over the cautions they have received for their demonstration. President Obama said he hoped Jones would arrive at the conclusion that the demonstration would only be destructive. Blind hatred isn’t intended to get part of the American character, just as religious tolerance and freedom is intended to be.
