Do you constantly forget where you put your keys, which tasks you’re supposed to finish, or which appointments you are to face ahead? Worse, are you too young to be having problems with regards to recalling and remembering things? Memory loss is a condition that is very much normal as it comes with aging. In a lot of cases, it’s also a byproduct of stress, depression, trauma, over fatigue, and medical conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, Parkinson’s, mental disorders, and whatnot. Memory loss can even be caused by substance abuse. That said, is there any way to revert the condition or improve memory?
If memory loss comes with Alzheimer’s disease and other severe disorders, it can be gradual and permanent. But if it’s something you’re dealing with between your 20’s and 50’s, then there’s a great chance you can still improve memory through natural remedies. Most people rely on brain puzzles for memory exercise and do work in a systematic order so as not to forget things. But there’s one practice that’s scientifically proven to improve memory when done religiously: meditation. Meditation is a devotional practice where the state of mind is put to a different level of consciousness. Meditation may be practiced in many ways, Buddhist, transcendal, and mindfulness, through which one can achieve calmness, freedom from stress and anxiety, increased stamina and focus, activity, etc.
Science tells us that meditations helps improve memory as it makes slight alterations on the brain’s function and structure. Daily meditative practice tends to thicken parts of the brain’s cerebral cortex which are responsible for memory, attention, and decision making. With the mind being able to pay attention for long periods and concentrate more, there will be less chances of not remembering anything as well as the mind is at peace and ready to focus when concentration or memory retention is called for. By meditating consistently, you impede the thinning of the cerebral cortex brought about by aging, thereby being able to improve memory or retain it better.
