The Root Chakra is the first chakra and is located between the legs at the base of the spine. This Chakra, generally known as Muladhara in ancient Sanskrit gives us stability and is the most important of all of the Chakras. This chakra is the one that lots of people have difficulty with and the one that most needs to get balanced with the other Chakras.
This root Chakra is a representation of your own power, of your capacity to survive and of your basic well being. This Chakra can help you preserve your connection with the earth and it will also give you a desire for self comfort, including economic stability.
With the root Chakra activated and balanced, maters of wealth and affluence can be helped.
With a blocked root Chakra or one that is not rotating as it should be then this can cause problems in all of the points mentioned above. There are also bodily symptoms which can be hindered by having an unbalanced root chakra, these being hemorrhoids, back problems, circulatory problems, bowel problems and obesity to mention a few.
The metal associated with this chakra is iron, its element is the earth and its color is red. Its gemstones are ruby, hematite and red jasper. Use of these stones, especially the red jasper can create a healthy aggressive approach towards your own basic survival. and can as such promote good health. To help us connect with the earth a latent energy inside us can be awakened. All of the lower chakras can be cleared by meditating with these stones which can help you become more grounded. For shy people or timid people these stones, when used to balance the root chakra can promote courage and strength.
The psychological elements of having this chakra in balance can give you self assurance and provide you with more control over your creative will. When the root Chakra is out of balance however, selfishness, depression and shyness are prevalent with a leaning towards distraction and an inability to save money.
Meditation to new age music in the key of C is ideal for working on this Chakra. Simply picture a ball of red light around the areas of the root Chakra. See a 4 petalled red lotus flower gently rotating as it opens over the Chakra. This flower is symbolized on the ancient Sanskrit mandala for this Chakra… its picture can be found on my website or on the cover of the Healing Chakras CD.
